Job Summary
The Systems Engineer 3 will support the development, validation, and verification of Human Machine Interface (HMI) display systems for energy, power, and transportation applications. This role focuses on requirements engineering, systems integration, software and system validation, and product quality, rather than traditional software development. The engineer will translate customer and system needs into testable requirements, develop validation strategies, execute testing, and verify that delivered solutions meet technical and quality standards. The position requires close collaboration with software developers, systems engineers, UI/UX teams, and global engineering groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Requirements Engineering: Develop, document, review, and maintain system and HMI software requirements, translating customer needs into clear, measurable, and testable specifications.
- Validation & Verification: Develop and execute test plans and test cases, including functional, regression, sanity, endurance, and performance testing.
- Systems Integration & Troubleshooting: Validate embedded systems, HMI displays, electronic controls, and software interfaces while investigating defects and supporting issue resolution.
- Test Automation & Quality: Develop automated test scripts, preferably using Python, maintain validation benches, document test evidence, and participate in FMEA and Built-In Quality (BIQ) activities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with software, systems, and UI/UX engineering teams to support design reviews, requirements traceability, software releases, and continuous product improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
- 5–7 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Candidates with an associate degree and 9 years of experience or a master's degree and 3 years of experience will also be considered.
- Strong experience in requirements engineering, including developing, documenting, reviewing, and managing technical requirements.
- Hands‑on experience with software and system validation and verification (V&V), including test planning, execution, and defect documentation.
- Experience validating embedded systems, HMI applications, electronic controls, or similar electronic systems.
- Familiarity with test automation and scripting, preferably Python.
- Understanding of embedded software algorithms, electronic systems, and software development/testing processes.
- Experience troubleshooting complex software and system‑level issues.
- Strong technical documentation, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with HMI systems, embedded displays, or electronic control systems.
- Requirements-to-test traceability and verification methodologies.
- Python‑based test automation and data analysis.
- Experience with Linux (Ubuntu/Debian) and programming technologies such as C++, Java, JavaScript, HTML5, or CSS.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as J1939 and Modbus.
- Experience with diagnostic and validation tools such as CANalyzer, CANape, ModSim, or equivalent tools.
- Knowledge of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Built-In Quality (BIQ), and structured risk management.
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Product/Process Improvement (CPI), and change management processes.
- Experience working with global engineering teams, external suppliers, or heavy equipment and industrial electronic systems.
Why This Role?
This position offers an opportunity to contribute to advanced HMI display technologies and embedded systems supporting critical power, energy, and transportation applications. Engineers will gain exposure to modern software validation tools, complex systems integration, and collaborative global engineering projects. Cullerton Group provides a professional environment with opportunities for technical growth, hands‑on engineering experience, and potential long‑term career advancement.
