Job summary

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance required
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
• 8+ years of systems engineering or related experience
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification required
• Hands-on experience with Omnissa Horizon hosted on VMware vSphere
• Experience managing thin-client environments (Dell Wyse or similar)
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills
• Knowledge of Group Policy (GPO) management within VDI environments
• Familiarity with DISA STIG compliance requirements
• Experience with VDI monitoring and performance management tools

Responsibilities

• Build, update, test, and deploy VDI master images and desktop pools
• Manage thin-client devices and endpoint configurations using enterprise management platforms
• Support profile management solutions to provide a seamless and reliable end-user experience
• Develop and maintain PowerShell automation scripts to improve operational efficiency
• Perform pre-production testing and validation of VDI image updates, patches, configuration changes, and monitor VDI performance
• Ensure VDI environments comply with DoD security requirements, including DISA STIG implementation
• Collaborate with systems, network, cybersecurity, and customer teams to support mission objectives

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Systems Engineer (VDI) in Newington, VA to support a mission-critical Department of Defense customer. This position will serve as a senior engineer responsible for the design, administration, optimization, and security of a large-scale Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment. The ideal candidate brings deep hands‑on expertise with Omnissa Horizon (VMware Horizon), VMware vSphere, endpoint management, automation, and secure enterprise desktop solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, update, test, and deploy VDI master images and desktop pools
• Manage thin-client devices and endpoint configurations using enterprise management platforms
• Support profile management solutions to provide a seamless and reliable end-user experience
• Develop and maintain PowerShell automation scripts to improve operational efficiency

Compensations

Salary Range: Up to $175,000 depending on experience
