Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions seeks a Systems Engineer (VDI) in Newington, VA to design, administer, and secure a large-scale Horizon VDI environment for a DoD customer. The role emphasizes automation, PowerShell scripting, and endpoint management using VMware Horizon and vSphere.

The ideal candidate will have TS/SCI clearance, 8+ years of experience, and hands-on Horizon/vSphere expertise, plus strong GPO and DISA STIG knowledge for secure desktop deployments.

Qualifications

• Active TS/SCI clearance required
• Bachelor’s degree (or higher)
• 8+ years of systems engineering or related experience
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification required
• Hands-on experience with Omnissa Horizon hosted on VMware vSphere
• Experience managing thin-client environments (Dell Wyse or similar)
• Strong PowerShell scripting and automation skills
• Knowledge of Group Policy (GPO) management within VDI environments
• Familiarity with DISA STIG compliance requirements
• Experience with VDI monitoring and performance management tools

Responsibilities

• Build, update, test, and deploy VDI master images and desktop pools
• Manage thin-client devices and endpoint configurations using enterprise management platforms
• Support profile management solutions to provide a seamless and reliable end-user experience
• Develop and maintain PowerShell automation scripts to improve operational efficiency
• Perform pre-production testing and validation of VDI image updates, patches, configuration changes, and monitor VDI performance
• Ensure VDI environments comply with DoD security requirements, including DISA STIG implementation
• Collaborate with systems, network, cybersecurity, and customer teams to support mission objectives
