Job summary

USPRO is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer in Roanoke, Virginia. In this advanced role, you will perform requirements analysis, technical planning, and system integration for warfighter systems. Requirements include a Bachelor's in Engineering, U.S. citizenship, and at least 8 years of relevant experience, ideally in aerospace or defense. You will lead a multidisciplinary team in developing and delivering solutions, ensuring compliance with all standards while maintaining clear communications with stakeholders.

Job description

• The Principal Systems Engineer performs at an advanced level: requirements analysis and management, technical planning, systems level design, systems integration, verification and validation, cost and risk management, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for products in the warfighter systems portfolio.
• The Principal Systems Engineer will provide guidance to the team in the development of warfighter systems electro optical devices.
• Lead multidisciplinary sensor development team in the development of project lifecycle plan and activities, including major milestones, reviews, and deliverables
• Analyses are performed during all phases of the product development process including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
• Develop, design, allocate, and manage user and system-level requirements
• Lead development of system architecture
• Evaluate design tradeoffs and lead technical discussions with a multi-disciplinary engineering team
• Define and assess interfaces with functional leads and outside organizations
• Lead technical reviews throughout the project lifecycle
• Provide oversight of verification and validation activities, including requirements traceability and compliance
• Aid transition of product into manufacturing alongside operations and manufacturing engineering

Basic Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain an Active DOD Secret Clearance, per ITAR regulations
• Must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in the Engineering field
• Minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience with a focus in classical Systems Engineering, additional experience in MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering) would be ideal

Required Skills

• Must have experience in Requirements definition
• Experience in DOORS and/or Cameo
• Experience with requirements management, including development of flow down requirements to subsystems, test case creation and requirements verification & validation, and V&V methods during the product life cycle
• Experience working within the aerospace or defense industry, and delivering solutions to the appropriate standards
• Experience with customer discovery/stakeholder needs and requirements
• Excellent communication skills with multi-disciplinary engineering team and government customers
• Experience with technical leadership of multi-disciplinary design teams (such as electrical, mechanical, optical, image science, software, firmware, or test engineers)
• Proficient in written (reports, proposals, white papers) and verbal skills (technical presentations)

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters of Science Degree in the Engineering field
• Certified to INCOSE CSEP or ESEP
• Technical skills, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) with Cameo
• CDRL preparation for USG customers (SRR/PDR/CDR/TRR)
• Experience with VIS-NIR cameras or digital Imaging systems knowledge
• Experience with Electro-Optical imaging systems (cameras), system design, integration, and test
• Experience delivering compliant Electro-Optical imaging systems to customer requirements
