Job description

Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer - Sensor Systems

This 9-month contract-to-hire role seeks a Senior Systems Engineer with extensive hands-on experience in sensor systems development, testing, and analysis. The engineer will work directly with a variety of sensors, including environmental, motion, and infrared (IR) sensors, focusing on analog front-end signal conditioning, sensor interfacing, and data-driven performance evaluation. In addition to executing tests, the engineer will interpret results, perform detailed data analysis, and provide clear technical recommendations to the broader engineering team on findings and next steps.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, plan, and execute tests for environmental sensors, motion sensors, IR sensors, and other sensor types to validate performance and reliability.

  • Configure and optimize analog front-end circuits, including signal conditioning and sensor interfacing, to ensure accurate and stable sensor measurements.

  • Use interfaces such as I²C, SPI, and UART to integrate sensors with embedded systems and evaluate end-to-end system behavior.

  • Operate lab instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems (DAQs), and precision analyzers, to capture, measure, and characterize sensor signals.

  • Design controlled experiments to assess sensor performance under varying environmental and operating conditions.

  • Perform statistical data analysis on test results to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes of performance issues.

  • Validate sensor fusion algorithms by correlating multi-sensor data and confirming algorithm outputs against expected behavior.

  • Collaborate with firmware and embedded systems engineers to ensure proper integration of sensors and analog front ends into the overall system.

  • Interpret test outcomes and experimental data to generate clear, actionable recommendations for design improvements and next steps.

  • Document test plans, procedures, results, and conclusions in a structured and traceable manner for use by cross-functional engineering teams.

  • Support environmental and reliability testing of precision electronics to ensure compliance with performance and durability requirements.

  • Contribute technical insights and best practices in sensor signal processing, data analysis, and system-level optimization throughout the project.

Essential Skills
  • Strong background in analog front ends, including signal conditioning and sensor interfacing.

  • Hands-on experience with sensor communication interfaces such as I²C, SPI, and UART.

  • Proficiency with lab instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems (DAQs), and precision analyzers.

  • Knowledge of embedded systems and firmware integration as it relates to sensor systems.

  • Understanding of environmental and reliability testing for precision electronics.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing controlled experiments and interpreting experimental results.

  • Strong statistical data analysis skills for evaluating sensor performance and system behavior.

  • Proficiency with data analysis tools such as Python, MATLAB, and libraries like NumPy and Pandas.

  • Experience in sensor signal processing, including filtering, calibration, and noise reduction.

  • Experience with sensor fusion and algorithm validation in multi-sensor systems.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

  • At least 10 years of hands-on experience in sensor systems development.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with printed circuit boards (PCBs) in the context of sensor and analog front‑end design and testing.

  • Familiarity with sensor fusion techniques and their application in complex systems.

  • Ability to translate complex test results into clear recommendations for design and system improvements.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting findings and collaborating with cross‑functional engineering teams.

  • Proactive, detail‑oriented approach to experimentation, measurement, and validation activities.

Work Environment

This is a 9-month contract-to-hire role in a laboratory and engineering environment focused on sensor systems. The engineer will work hands‑on with environmental, motion, and IR sensors, as well as associated analog front ends and embedded systems. Daily work involves extensive use of lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, and precision analyzers, along with software tools including Python, MATLAB, NumPy, and Pandas for data analysis and visualization. The environment emphasizes careful experimentation, rigorous documentation, and close collaboration with firmware and hardware engineers to integrate and validate sensor solutions. Work hours typically align with standard engineering office and lab schedules, with on‑site access to test benches, measurement equipment, and electronic prototypes.
