Job Title: Software Engineer – Service ConnectJob Description

This role offers the opportunity to solve complex problems in an event-driven data environment while collaborating with a highly skilled team of Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Data Scientists, Agile Delivery Leads, and Technical Product Owners. You will design and build backend services and microservices on AWS, implement robust RESTful APIs, and drive technical innovation that enhances mobility, safety, and convenience services. The position suits someone who enjoys thinking big, working hands-on in modern cloud-native architectures, and leading initiatives that deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Write clean, reusable, and high-quality production code, even in unfamiliar codebases, frameworks, or languages, to solve novel and complex problems.

  • Develop, test, and maintain backend services in a microservices environment, focusing on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.

  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices that support event-driven architectures and integrate with internal and external systems.

  • Produce clear software requirements specifications and assess their operational feasibility at scale to meet and exceed business needs.

  • Continuously integrate and deliver software components into a fully functional software system while improving the continuous integration and delivery processes.

  • Work extensively with AWS services such as Lambda, EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Flink, RDS, API Gateway, and SQS to build and operate cloud-native solutions.

  • Use Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) tools such as Terraform to provision, manage, and version infrastructure in an automated and repeatable way.

  • Optimize application performance, scalability, and security across services and environments.

  • Collaborate closely with platform engineers, product teams, and other stakeholders to align technical solutions with product goals and customer needs.

  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including automated unit and integration testing, to ensure high code quality and fast, reliable deployments.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, debugging, and upgrading of existing systems in both development and production environments.

  • Lead and facilitate team discussions and documentation related to system design, engineering, and architecture.

  • Define engineering velocity targets, evaluate feature trade-offs, and help the team balance speed, quality, and technical risk.

  • Lead technical innovation efforts to address complex technical and business challenges with creative and practical solutions.

  • Manage prioritization of new features versus technical debt to optimize engineering efficiency and long-term system health.

  • Lead reviews of complex code, ensuring adherence to software development best practices and providing constructive guidance during merge reviews.

  • Translate research and experimental work into impactful, high-performing products and features.

  • Develop and maintain documentation, best practices, and ethical guidelines for projects to ensure consistency and responsible use of technology.

  • Provide thoughtful, high-quality feedback on merge requests, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Conduct code and architecture reviews, ensuring high standards for code quality, testing coverage, and documentation.

  • Identify and resolve complex technical issues in both development and production environments, minimizing impact on users and systems.

  • Coach and mentor more junior Software Engineers through targeted feedback, guidance, and support to help them improve technical skills and achieve development goals.

  • Recommend resources, tools, and learning materials to help the team stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.

  • Lead projects under the direction of a Manager or Product Owner, including defining project objectives, developing schedules, preparing cost estimates, allocating resources, and ensuring timely delivery.

  • Apply systems thinking to understand interdependencies across services and components and design solutions that achieve desired outcomes.

  • Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely to stakeholders at all levels to ensure alignment and effective collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Contribute to an Agile software engineering environment by participating in ceremonies, refining requirements, and continuously improving team processes.
