Job Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment to ensure continual access to our cloud services. We work on challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain, and we seek talented individuals who want to contribute.

You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. Your role involves collaborating across AWS to uphold high safety and security standards while providing extensive capacity at minimal cost. We foster an inclusive culture that encourages bold ideas and ownership.

Data Center Engineering designs and builds data centers worldwide, prioritizing safety, security, and availability. You will develop scalable systems to automate and maintain high device availability in our data centers.

The Security Solutions team manages security devices, software, firmware, and bespoke hardware for physical and data security across traditional and edge environments. We seek a System Development Engineer with broad technical skills to optimize device connectivity and monitoring. Your work will involve delivering systems that monitor security device health, assess component criticality, and drive prioritization and alarms for remediation. Technologies involved include Python, Typescript/Javascript, SQL, and AWS services. Your contributions will enhance the security posture of the AWS cloud, maintaining customer trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement, test, and document large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services.
  • Translate functional requirements into robust, scalable, and supportable solutions within the system architecture.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle: from design and implementation to testing, documentation, delivery, and maintenance.
  • Create comprehensive, usable documentation for software.
  • Evaluate and decide on the use of new or existing software products and tools.
  • Mentor junior engineers.

The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with a passion for maintaining reliable, distributed systems operating 24/7/365. Effective collaboration, excellent communication, self-motivation, flexibility, and a fun attitude are essential.

Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship).
  • 1+ years designing or architecting scalable, reliable systems.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with networking, storage, operating systems, and systems engineering.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, C++, C#, Java, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with PowerShell, Python, Ruby, or Java.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, OS).
