Systems Development Engineer, Data Center Engineering Security Solutions

Data Center Engineering designs and builds data centers to provide capacity for our AWS customers around the world. Safety, security, and availability are the most important things we deliver to our external and internal customers. You will build highly scalable systems to automate and maintain high availability of devices in our datacenters.

The Data Center Engineering Security Solutions organization owns a collection of security devices, third party software and firmware, and home-grown software tools and bespoke hardware solutions. This technology provides both physical and data security at traditional datacenters (lease/owned and Colo) as well as Edge and Non-traditional Environments. Our team is seeking System Development engineer with broad technical skills to help us optimize how we connect to these devices and monitor availability. You will deliver a system that monitors health of security devices, understands the criticality of each component, and drives prioritization and alarming for remediation of each system. As a member of this team you will employ Python and Typescript/Javascript and Database query language such as SQL. You will get to use the full set of AWS technologies to build these services. The services that you build will be a force multiplier for protecting the AWS cloud for all customers. This will help us preserve our customers’ trust in us. AWS is a world leader in providing highly available and secure infrastructure in the cloud and it powers millions of customers around the globe.

Key job responsibilities

1. Participate in the design, development, implementation, testing and documentation of large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software applications, tools, systems and services.
2. Translate functional requirements into robust, scalable, supportable solutions that work well within the overall system architecture.
3. Participate in the full development cycle, end-to-end, from design, implementation, and testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.
4. Produce comprehensive, usable software documentation.
5. Evaluate and make decisions around the use of new or existing software products and tools.
6. Mentor junior development engineers.

Successful members of this team collaborate effectively with internal end-users, cross-functional software development teams, and technical support/sustaining engineering teams to solve problems and deliver successfully against high operational standards of system availability and reliability. Minimum Requirements

1. 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
2. 1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
3. 5+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience.
4. Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby.
5. Experience with PowerShell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java.
6. Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.
7. Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
