Job summary

Amazon Kuiper Manufacturing Enterprises LLC seeks a System Development Engineer for Regulatory Engineering to craft automated data retrieval, data repos, and deployment tooling for regulatory constraints across satellite operations.

You will build tools for modeling, geospatial visualization, and analytics, plus monitoring to detect issues before they impact operations. U.S. citizen or eligible resident required; on-site in Arlington, VA.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years designing or architecting scalable systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern language (Python, Java, C++, etc.).
  • Experience automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infra.
  • Strong Linux/Unix skills.

We are seeking an innovative and solution-oriented System Development Engineer to join our Regulatory Engineering team to develop innovative solutions [TBD]


Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will work within the Regulatory Engineering and Analysis team to:



  • Develop automated data retrieval tools to obtain external publicly-available information to be used both for situational awareness and to configure Kuiper operational mechanisms;

  • Implement data repositories to keep track of data, constraints, and configurations;

  • Implement deployment mechanisms using automated machine-to-machine interfaces to facilitate safe and efficient deployments of regulatory constraints to operational systems in accordance with CI/CD best practices;

  • Support the development of team-internal software tools used to analyze satellite system behavior and to determine and optimize Leo system operational constraints. This includes tools to facilitate satellite communications modeling and simulation, geospatial visualizations, and data analytics;

  • Develop operational monitoring tools to ingest logs and poll status for system behavior validation, optimization, and early detection & reporting of issues to on-call staff.


Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.


About The Team

The Global Regulatory Affairs team is responsible for enabling and protecting Amazon Leo's use of radio frequency spectrum throughout the world. The Regulatory Engineering and Analysis Team uses a data driven approach to develop strategies for regulatory and policy advocacy, and to guide the Amazon Leo system’s use of RF spectrum. The Regulatory Engineering and Analysis Team analyzes Amazon Leo system performance, including how it is affected by RF interference, and works in close collaboration with Amazon Leo design teams to optimize the satellite architecture and meet its regulatory obligations.


Basic Qualifications


  • 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure

  • Experience with Linux/Unix

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

  • Experience building services using AWS products


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with geospatial tooling and libraries: GeoPandas, Shapely, OGR, QGIS, PostGIS (with extensions), and map projections

  • Working knowledge of RF communications fundamentals, basic orbital mechanics, and satellite ground systems development

  • Familiarity with satellite spectrum regulatory frameworks (FCC 47 CFR Part 25, ITU Radio Regulations, or equivalent)

  • Experience with data analysis using Pandas or Spark DataFrames

  • Experience building data lake / lakehouse pipelines with AWS Athena, Glue, and S3

  • Experience managing fleets at scale with AWS Systems Manager (SSM Agent, SSM Documents, orchestrated automation workflows)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
