Northrop Grumman is seeking a Systems Design Engineer to join our team at the Rolling Meadows, IL site. The role involves coordinating across disciplines to ensure system requirements and designs are properly and thoroughly defined and captured.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with subject matter experts to decompose and capture system requirements.
• Support trade studies addressing technical challenges and guide system design decision-making.
• Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methods and tools, including Cameo, to develop and maintain system models, traceability matrices, and verification cross‑reference artifacts.
• Generate and update specifications and Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) in DOORS.
• Deliver technical presentations to stakeholders.
• Participate in Agile teams, maintaining awareness of cost and schedule constraints.

Basic Qualifications

• BS degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a STEM field with 2 years of related experience; OR an MS degree in a STEM field; OR a PhD with no required experience.
• Proficiency in analytical thinking and problem‑solving.
• Working knowledge of DOORS and/or MBSE tools such as Cameo.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum Secret clearance (additional clearance per customer specifications).
• U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an Agile environment with awareness of cost and schedule constraints.
• Experience decomposing requirements for DoD‑based platforms or systems.
• Knowledge of EOIR systems, sensors, optics, antenna design, direction finding, geolocation, or threat analysis.
• Hands‑on experience with MATLAB/Python.
• Proficiency with RF‑CAD suites such as ANSYS HFSS, CST Microwave Studio, or Keysight ADS.
• Advanced knowledge of DSP, SDR, and FPGA‑based RF prototyping.
• Expertise in SysML modeling and MBSE tools (IBM Rational DOORS, Enterprise Architect, Cameo).
• Experience applying AI/ML to RF classification, spectrum analysis, or adaptive beamforming.
• Experience supporting DoD programs during EMD and/or LRIP phases.
• Experience collaborating on complex hardware, software, and firmware projects.

Salary and Benefits

Primary level salary range: $87,600 – $131,400 per year. The salary is determined by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, and market conditions. Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives for senior positions. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation or personal business.

Relocation Assistance

Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required for start: Yes. Clearance type: SAP. Travel: Yes, 10% of the time.

This position is full‑time, on‑site at Rolling Meadows, IL. The role may be contingent upon funding/contract award, procurement approvals, and acquisition and maintenance of the required U.S. Government security clearance.
