NYC IT Inc. seeks an experienced Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux) to manage enterprise Unix/Linux server and storage infrastructure.

This 1-year contract focuses on Oracle Linux administration, performance tuning, security, backup and recovery, and high‑availability environments. Responsibilities include installing and securing servers, monitoring performance, applying patches, maintaining DR configurations, and performing backups with NetBackup and VEEAM.

Formación

• 6–8 years of Oracle Linux Systems Administration in large-scale Unix/Linux environments.
• Strong hands-on experience installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Linux/Unix OS.
• Knowledge of LDOMs, ZFS, and Zones/Containers in on‑premises and cloud environments.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation.
• Strong networking knowledge: TCP/IP, SSL, DNS, LDAP, SSH, NFS, NIS, SMTP, SNMP, Sendmail.
• Experience with Oracle Apps Server, WebLogic, and Oracle RDBMS on Linux/Unix.
• Knowledge of Oracle SAN, ASM, and OCFS.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and collaborate with teams.

Responsabilidades

• Install, configure, secure, maintain Unix/Linux servers and storage infrastructure.

• Plan and apply server patching, security updates, and maintenance.
• Support OS security policies, intrusion detection, and vulnerability mitigation.
• Maintain disaster recovery configurations and perform recovery testing.

• Administer HA environments on Oracle Exadata.
• Collaborate with DBAs and app teams on configuration and integration.
• Configure and monitor scheduled batch jobs, alerts, and availability.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and application issues.
• Follow change management and incident reporting procedures.
• Coordinate with vendors for issue resolution and escalation.
• Respond to service desk requests and document knowledge transfer.
• Maintain Unix/Linux hardware and software inventory.
• Provide after-hours and weekend support as required.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux) to manage, maintain, secure, and optimize enterprise-level Unix/Linux server and storage infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Oracle Linux administration, system performance tuning, security, backup and recovery, and high-availability environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, secure, maintain, and support Unix/Linux servers and storage infrastructure.
• Monitor system performance, analyze resource utilization, and implement performance-tuning measures.
• Plan and implement regular server patching, security updates, and system maintenance.
• Support operating system security policies, intrusion detection, and vulnerability mitigation.
• Maintain disaster recovery configurations, conduct recovery testing, and document recovery procedures.
• Perform file system backups and recovery testing using Symantec NetBackup and VEEAM.
• Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot high-availability server environments running on Oracle Exadata.
• Collaborate with database administrators and application teams to support system configuration and integration.
• Configure and monitor scheduled batch jobs, system alerts, and infrastructure availability.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, and application-related issues.
• Follow established change management procedures and incident reporting protocols.
• Coordinate with vendors to resolve technical issues and escalation critical incidents when necessary.
• Respond to service desk requests, maintain technical documentation, and support knowledge transfer.
• Maintain Unix/Linux hardware and software inventory.
• Provide after-hours and weekend support as required.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Preferably 6–8 years of experience as an Oracle Linux Systems Administrator in a large-scale Unix/Linux environment.
• Strong hands‑on experience installing, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Linux/Unix operating systems.
• Working knowledge of LDOMs, ZFS file systems, and Zones/Containers in on‑premises and cloud environments.
• Experience with shell scripting and automation.
• Strong understanding of networking protocols and services, including TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP, SSL, SFTP, HTTP, NIS, DNS, NFS, LDAP, SSH, and Sendmail.
• Experience supporting Oracle Applications Server, WebLogic, and Oracle RDBMS on Linux/Unix platforms.
• Knowledge of Oracle Storage Area Network (SAN), Automatic Storage Management (ASM), and Oracle Cluster File System (OCFS).
• Experience with Symantec NetBackup and VEEAM for backup and recovery operations.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
