Job summary

Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) seeks a System Administrator to support server hardware, operating systems, and SAN environments at our NYC office. The role grows with Levels 1 through 5, adding leadership, design, and strategic input.

You will install, configure, and troubleshoot critical infrastructure, work with DBs and networks, and contribute to product evaluations. This is a strong opportunity for career progression in IT operations.

Qualifications

: Basic knowledge of installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer server hardware, operating system software, and storage area network equipment.
; Ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
; Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals, and documentation so supported equipment can be maintained with minimal training.
; Strong oral and written communications skills.
; Strong analytical skills.
; Must be able to move and lift up to 25lbs of equipment.
Level 2 adds: Knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer server hardware, OS and SAN; Ability to provide technical direction to less senior staff.
Level 3 adds: Strong knowledge, people skills, and ability to plan, design and engineer technical solutions and standards.

Responsibilities

Install, configure and troubleshoot complex hardware and/or software solutions supporting MTA’s server and storage environment to meet availability targets.
Configure and install servers for various functions, including application servers, database servers, domain controllers, web servers and storage area networks.
Work with database administrators, network administrators, help desk staff and other IT resources to coordinate server and storage infrastructure requirements.
Ensure all required system documentation and asset management records are completed accurately and timely.
Participate in evaluation of new products and technologies.
Level 2: Guide less senior technicians.
Level 3: Design and engineer effective solutions; assist with installation planning.
Level 4: Evaluate/new technologies, influence direction; plan and coordinate install projects.
Level 5: Lead evaluation and planning of new tech across the environment.
