Systems Administrator - Mission Applications

Full Time Arlington, VA, US

3 days ago Requisition ID: 1498

Salary Range: $85,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually

About SHR Consulting Group

SHR Consulting Group, LLC is a small business delivering enterprise IT, cybersecurity, and program management services to the Department of Defense and federal civilian agencies. We support mission-critical infrastructure at the Pentagon and across the National Capital Region, and we invest in our people through competitive compensation, professional certification support, and long-term career growth on stable, multi-year programs.

Position Summary

SHR Consulting Group is seeking Systems Administrators to operate and maintain the Mission Applications portfolio supporting the DISA J-9 Hosting and Compute (HAC) environment. Mission Applications are the custom-developed, COTS, and GOTS applications that deliver above-standard services to specific Mission Partners. In this role you will keep those applications available, patched, accredited, and recoverable — handling everything from web and application server administration through backup validation, failover configuration, and IAVA remediation. Positions are available for both Microsoft and Red Hat Linux computing environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide operations, maintenance, and in-depth technical support for web servers, application servers, web applications, client-server applications, and system interfaces
  • Install, configure, and maintain application services and software, including third-party software, upgrades, patches, and dependencies such as .NET Runtime and Java Runtime
  • Configure, schedule, monitor, and restore application, application server, and web server backups; test and validate backup procedures at minimum annually
  • Configure, manage, and monitor application replication, synchronization, and failover
  • Maintain COOP readiness and support continuity activities for Mission Essential Systems (MES)
  • Monitor and respond to operating system, database, network, storage, and service errors and events using J-9 HAC standard enterprise management tools
  • Diagnose and resolve incidents, unscheduled interruptions, and performance issues; implement customer or vendor provided workarounds
  • Coordinate Authorized Service Interruptions (ASI) with service and application owners and provide after-hours support for scheduled ASIs, break/fix incidents, and MES-impacting incidents
  • Create and manage system accounts, profiles, and permissions in accordance with cybersecurity requirements, including user account profiles for customer application administrators
  • Create and maintain system documentation, diagrams, and configuration information for all application components and configuration items
  • Document change requests and implementation plans and deploy and validate all changes in test and pre-production environments prior to production implementation
  • Operate and maintain applications in accordance with DISA STIG and SRG requirements; patch and remediate IAVA findings
  • Assist customers and vendors in maintaining vendor-recommended security configurations and in resolving reported application vulnerabilities
  • Validate and document cybersecurity compliance to support application RMF accreditation, at minimum annually
  • Manage assigned incidents and service requests with detailed status, tasks, and actions in the program ITSM system
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hands-on systems administration experience supporting production web and application server environments (IIS and/or Apache)
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server 2012 or higher, and/or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 or higher, depending on assigned computing environment
  • Experience with application backup, restore, replication, and failover configuration
  • Experience applying DISA STIGs and remediating IAVA findings on application and server components
  • Familiarity with database administration concepts supporting application databases (Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle)
  • Experience working incidents, service requests, and changes through a formal ITSM ticketing process
  • Ability to document configurations, diagrams, and change implementation plans clearly
  • Experience in a DoD or comparable large, complex enterprise IT environment preferred
