Job summary

North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NCDIT) seeks a Systems Administrator II (NS) to plan, install, configure, deploy, and support Windows and VMware-based systems in an enterprise environment.

This statutorily exempt position may be eligible for remote work under state policy, but on-site work is sometimes required. The role involves on-call rotations, collaboration with application owners, and ensuring reliable operation of critical IT services for state agencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an IT related field or closely related field with three years of progressive experience in systems software programming.
• Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field or closely related field with four years of progressive experience in systems software programming.

Responsibilities

• Plan, install, configure, deploy, support, and decommission Windows and VMware-based systems.
• Support Windows infrastructure and server roles such as DNS, DHCP, AD, File and Print, IIS, SQL, and more.
• Collaborate with application owners for system integration and testing; perform QA in delivery of systems; provide incident/problem resolution.
• Ensure reliable operation of an enterprise-scale environment running mission-critical applications.

Description of Work

Salary Range up to $122,256

The position is designated Statutory Exempt (EHRA) and is exempt from the State Human Resources Act. This position may be eligible for remote work in accordance with state policy and the agency’s remote work program but does sometimes require onsite work. Will be on call as part of a team rotation. Any telework will be under the conditions of the state Teleworking Program Policy, and the employer may end any teleworking arrangement at any time in the employer's sole discretion.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences

• Systems Administration & Infrastructure Management: Experience administering enterprise Windows environments, supporting multi-platform client/server infrastructure, and managing VMware virtualized environments.
• Cloud Operations, Security & Endpoint Management: Experience supporting cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform), implementing security controls, and managing enterprise endpoints using tools such as Tanium.
• Automation, Monitoring & Operational Support: Experience with IT operations including system monitoring, incident management, technical support, configuration and deployment activities, process automation, and maintaining efficient, reliable workflows.
