UTHealth Houston is seeking a Systems Administrator to join the Database & Application Support team within the Data Center Operations division. You will manage UNIX/Linux and Windows servers, provide cloud operational support across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud, and support CMS-driven applications, automation, and BI tooling.
Candidate should have strong server administration skills, experience with scripting (Bash/PowerShell), and familiarity with ASP/Apache/IIS stacks.

Data Center Operations (DCO), under the direction of the Infrastructure Team at UTHealth Houston, operates the university’s primary data centers. DCO also administers standards for multiple data centers that are a part of the UTHealth campus. DCO comprises three primary areas: Infrastructure & Operational Support, Database & Application Support, and Datacenter & Infrastructure.
UTHealth Houston is seeking a Systems Administrator to join the Database & Application Support team within DCO. This team focuses on clinical, enterprise, and departmental-level application systems design, implementation, and support. Primary responsibilities include server and database administration, cloud operational support, content management system administration, application systems and support, systems integration and automation, business intelligence, and working closely with application owners to help with performance tuning, troubleshooting installations, and upgrades.

Responsible for the day-to-day activities related to system stability, reliability, and security.
Required:
Server Administration: Windows Server 2022+, includes installation, configuration, security, and troubleshooting. Both on-prem and cloud support knowledge.
Linux Server Administration: Includes installation, configuration, security, and troubleshooting for on-prem physical and virtual servers, as well as Google Cloud AWS/Azure cloud servers. Experienced in working with Dell Server Hardware.
Client/Server Application support: Backend systems support for client-server applications. Understanding of basic BASH scripting along with web technologies such as IIS, Tomcat, and Apache. Understanding of SSL certificate implementation.
CMS Administration: Proficiency in application framework delivering content management, user management, role-based security, scalable distributed architecture, dashboards, and a range of plugins, APIs, and themes.
Organizational Skills: Ability to understand project methodology and project management. Use of Azure DevOps, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint Online and M365 tools such as Planner.
Communication and Teamwork: Ability to communicate both written and orally to a wide variety of audiences. Must be able to think logically in solving problems and implement workable solutions. Must be able to resolve all problems existing and newly discovered to move the project towards completion. Must be able to work in a team environment and be a self-contributor, meeting all project-related goals.
Candidates should have a broad range of technical capabilities that enable them to handle all aspects of application management and to communicate and discuss technical design issues and problem resolution with Application and System Administrators.
Must be able to work with vendors and clients, both internal to IT and external, to understand needs to scope projects and system environments to satisfy the overall objective of any project.
UTHealth System Administrators support a variety of mission-critical, 24x7, patient-care-focused systems that must be readily available. To support these systems, scheduled and unscheduled after-hours work is often required. There is also an on-call rotation that has been scheduled months in advance to help triage issues after hours and on holidays.
Bachelor's Degree required. Training in information technology required. May substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.
1 year in information technology support and systems administration in diverse environments required Experience with the network and server hardware, software and security tools that UTHSC-H has deployed in its information technology infrastructure preferred
