Job summary

UTHealth Houston is seeking a Level IV Systems and Applications Specialist to support the School of Dentistry and Dentistry Clinics. The role emphasizes multi-department IT operations, imaging equipment, Epic Wisdom, and clinical applications, with on-site face-to-face support.

You will mentor junior staff, lead in the future, and collaborate with students, clinicians, and staff to ensure reliable systems and medical devices, while managing critical deployments and upgrades.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent years of experience.
  • At least 5 years of related IT experience; clinical environment asset.
  • Experience supporting multi-department IT operations and medical/clinical devices.

Responsibilities

  • Handles installations, configurations, IT equipment, and software repairs.
  • Diagnoses and resolves a broad range of hardware and software issues across departments.
  • Provides training and support to multiple departments for high-impact issues.
  • Oversees IT asset deployment, relocation, and surplus activities.
  • Performs critical system refreshes and software updates across departments.
  • Supports for critical systems and medical devices with IT policy compliance.
  • Mentors junior staff and supports professional development.
  • Executes major rollouts, migrations, and upgrades.

Position Summary

UTHealth Houston is looking for a Level IV Systems and Applications Specialist who will work in our School of Dentistry and the Dentistry Clinics. This role provides more comprehensive support for multi-departmental IT operations, with a focus on critical systems. In dental clinics, there is a lot of imaging equipment, X-ray machines, and other peripheral equipment that are crucial to their operating environment. You will not just be providing straightforward desktop support, but working with clinicians who are running advanced programs such as Epic Wisdom. This will all be unique to the dental world. You will be assisting schools, clinics, and labs. Your support clients will include students, clinical providers, and staff.

Position Key Accountabilities
  • Handles comprehensive installations, configurations, IT equipment, and software repairs.
  • Diagnoses and resolves a broader range of hardware and software issues, focusing on comprehensive problems.
  • Provides comprehensive support and training to multiple departments and manages high-impact issues.
  • Oversees multi-departmental IT inventory, including tracking and managing asset deployment, relocation, and surplus activities.
  • Performs more critical system refreshes and software updates to multiple departments, ensuring all updates are correctly applied and compatible with current systems.
  • Provides comprehensive support for critical systems and applications.
  • Using advanced tools and techniques, manages and troubleshoots Windows, MacOS, and iOS devices.
  • Provides comprehensive support for medical devices, ensuring rigorous compliance with IT policies.
  • Oversees the execution of major rollouts, migrations, and upgrades across multiple departments.
  • Mentors and develops junior staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree required. You may substitute required education with equivalent years of experience beyond the minimum experience requirement.

Minimum Experience

At least 5 years of related experience required, and experience in a clinical area or environment is an asset.

Physical Requirements

Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
