Job summary

Amentum is recruiting a Systems Administrator 2 (Linux) for Kauai, HI, to manage Red Hat Linux across classified and unclassified Navy networks. You will implement RMF controls, apply DoW/DISA standards, and patch systems in a live mission environment.

Responsibilities include automation via PowerShell/Bash/Python, SCCM/Ansible imaging, and supporting VMware/Nutanix virtualization while maintaining documentation and SOPs.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of specialized Linux system administration
• Knowledge of IT systems and advanced IT infrastructure concepts
• Proficient in Windows/Linux administration and office equipment
• Automation scripting in PowerShell, Bash, Python
• VMware/Nutanix certification desirable
• Knowledge of DoW, RMF, STIGs, and DoW policies
• Experience with Trellix, LogRhythm, and MDE is beneficial
• Familiarity with DoW IT systems across Windows, RHEL, and infrastructure concepts

• Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V) and lifecycle management
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams for ATO packages and POA&Ms
• Maintain system documentation and SOPs; participate in CCBs/CMBs; lead incident response
• Define backup/disaster recovery strategies (Veeam, Commvault)
• Evaluate new Linux technologies and DoW-approved tools
• Occasional at-sea duties for PMRF MATSS system

Job description

Amentum is seeking a Systems Administrator 2 (Linux) for a position on Kauai, HI.Provides Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) system administration for all Clients and Servers connected to the Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) classified and unclassified networks. Deploys Cyber Security mandated system upgrades, system patches, and system security lockdown requirements. Performs system wide troubleshooting and problem resolution in a live mission environment.

Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain Red Hat Linux (RHEL) and other Linux-based environments in classified and unclassified environments across Navy networks.
• Implement and maintain RMF security controls and ensure systems are compliant with DISA STIGs and DoW cybersecurity policies.
• Apply and manage patches and updates across all Linux systems in accordance with DoW and Navy patch management policies.
• Manage automated installation methods and system imaging (e.g., SCCM, VMware, Nutanix, Satellite, Ansible)
• Perform system hardening, patching, and vulnerability remediation using tools such as ACAS, ESS, and SCAP.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for automation of administrative tasks and system configuration.
• Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V) and manage virtual infrastructure lifecycle.
• Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to support ATO packages, POA&Ms, and audit readiness.
• Maintain and develop system documentation, configuration baselines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Participate in Change Control Boards (CCBs) and Configuration Management Boards (CMBs).
• Lead incident response, forensic analysis, and system recovery efforts.
• Define backup and disaster recovery strategies using enterprise tools (e.g., Veeam, Commvault).
• Evaluate and recommend new Linux technologies and DoW-approved tools.
• General office environment with site visits as well as periodic "at sea" duty to support the PMRF's Mobile at Sea Sensor system (MATSS)
• Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment and participate in technical and system administrative activities throughout project life cycles.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Lifting, Pushing/Pulling: over 50lbs
• Work positions requirements: walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, cramped, sitting and work requiring repeated stooping or frequent climbing.
• Environment: customer contact, extended workday, confined work area, office laboratory, field assignment, and inclement weather.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience

• Two (2) year of specialized Linux system administration is required.
• Years of directly related work experience may be substituted for a degree
• Knowledge of IT systems and advance IT infrastructure concepts
• Must be proficient in operating personal computers, computer software and standard office equipment
• Must have basic keyboarding skills and aptitude for neatness and accuracy in sorting
• Critical thinking - Proven problem solver
• Proficiency in automation tools and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python)
• VMware/Nutanix certification
• Knowledge/Administration of Trellix, LogRhythm, and MDE
• Experience with DoW systems and infrastructure
• Knowledge in Cyber Security Methods and Techniques
• Knowledge of DoW IT systems, to include Windows, RHEL, and comprehensive infrastructure concepts

Education

• Associate's Degree
• High School Diploma with four (4) years of directly related system administration experience may be substituted for an A.S. degree.
• Advance certifications or education may be substituted for a degree or experience

Certifications (subject to change based on industry, DoW, or local policy requirements)

• DODI 8570.1M IAT Level II required prior to start
• Linux+ or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Certification required prior to start

Preferred Qualifications

• Advance knowledge and certification in both Windows Server and RHEL is considered highly desired

Security Clearance

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance. Applicants selected either must currently possess a Top Secret clearance or will be subject to a US Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.

Compensation Details:

$110K - $135K
