Job summary

Boutique Recruiting seeks a System Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support Motorola 911 dispatch consoles and related radio systems across Southern Minnesota. This hands-on role combines field service, diagnostics, radio programming, equipment staging, and customer support with regular travel to public safety sites.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years hands-on System Technician experience with MCC7500/MCC7500E, RF and networking knowledge, and the ability to work independently

Job description

Position Title: System Technician

Build and support the critical communication systems that public safety teams rely on every day. We are seeking an experienced System Technician to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support sophisticated radio communication and 911 dispatch systems across Southern Minnesota. This hands-on role combines field service, system diagnostics, radio programming, equipment staging, and customer support, with regular travel to public safety and law enforcement sites throughout the region.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, technically skilled problem solver with hands-on experience supporting Motorola 911 dispatch consoles, strong RF and networking knowledge, and the judgment to work independently in mission-critical environments.

Salary Range: $67,800 - $93,600 / Year DOE

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support Motorola 911 dispatch consoles, radio communication systems, and related equipment
• Travel to customer locations within approximately a two-hour radius, independently managing service calls across multiple counties
• Diagnose system issues using analytical, stimulus-and-response testing methods, adjusting priorities quickly when outages or urgent service needs arise
• Program radios, stage equipment for upcoming installations, and perform technical work within the shop as needed
• Service tower-site equipment while following proper safety procedures and understanding equipment access limitations, with no tower climbing required
• Troubleshoot antennas, transmission lines, point-to-point radio systems, microwave systems, switches, VLANs, routers, BDA/DAS systems, P25 sites and related infrastructure
• Build strong relationships with dispatchers, law enforcement personnel, and other customers, providing responsive, professional service and clear technical communication

Requirements

• 5–10 years of hands-on experience as a System Technician, including setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting Motorola 911 dispatch consoles
• Strong working knowledge of MCC7500 or MCC7500E systems, with relevant AXS console experience also considered
• Experience with dispatch console theory, radio communications, RF systems, networking, troubleshooting and system integration
• Working knowledge of antennas, transmission lines, microwave systems, Ethernet, switches, VLANs, routers and related testing methods
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, sound judgment and the ability to independently diagnose complex technical issues
• Valid driver’s license, with the ability to travel regularly to customer locations throughout the service territory
• Self-motivated, accountable and adaptable work style, with the ability to manage shifting priorities and complete work with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

• Motorola R56 certification, training, or working knowledge
• FCC or ETA International certification specific to RF communications, such as CETa, CET, or GROL, or the ability to obtain an applicable certification within six months of hire
• Experience with BDA/DAS systems, simulcast systems, P25 sites, subscriber programming and radio codeplug development
• Experience testing antennas and transmission lines using sweep testing, VNA, return loss, reflected power, or similar methods
• Familiarity with APX consoles, Cambium equipment, point-to-point radio systems and microwave communications
• Experience supporting or planning law enforcement or public safety communication centers
