Job summary

Western Farmers Electric Cooperative in Shawnee, Oklahoma is seeking a Journeyman Systems Technician - System Protection (or a Systems Technician) to support the transmission system’s protection and control functions. The role focuses on relays, metering, and substation automation, with flexibility to cover multiple areas as needed.

Under supervision, you will install, repair, calibrate equipment, and ensure proper data transmission to EMS/SCADA systems.

Qualifications

Associate's degree or equivalent in a related field or five years of related experience.
Completion of an apprentice training program in system protection.
Experience with metering, protective relaying, EMS/SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

Install, repair, calibrate metering, relaying, and substation automation to function as designed; transmit data to EMS/SCADA as applicable.
Resolve system problem requests from Operations, Engineering, and Transmission & Distribution staff.
Configure or program meters and relays; interpret data to resolve transmission or substation issues.
Conduct commission testing of switch stations/substations and document results for NERC compliance.
Direct/oversee contractors to ensure proper installation and documentation for NERC compliance while commissioning switch stations.
Support communications functions as needed.
