Job summary

Muscatine Power and Water seeks a System Operations Trainee to gain comprehensive knowledge of electric and water systems, under a NERC-certified operator. You will engage in formal training, on-the-job learning, and site visits to support reliability and cost-effective delivery to customers.

Under supervision, you will monitor voltages, report to MISO/NERC/DOE, and participate in emergency response activities, with 12-hour swing shifts and cross-functional teamwork.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• Must obtain NERC Certification within 1 year and maintain it.
• Basic knowledge of economics and costing procedures.
• Willing to sign confidentiality agreements.

Responsibilities

• Participate in formal training and on-the-job learning to operate electric and water systems.
• Learn responses to system conditions to maintain BES reliability.
• Write and issue switching orders for emergency and normal operations.
• Maintain daily weather, load, and tie-line data.
• Respond to emergency calls and assist incident command.
• Monitor security systems and answer customer outage inquiries.
