Job summary

Farmers Electric Cooperative in Texas is seeking a System Operations Supervisor to oversee dispatch, system communications, and outage response, ensuring reliable power for our members. The role coordinates field crews, on-call rotations, and compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.

You will lead a team, analyze grid data via SCADA/OMS, and maintain diagrams and logs for PUC, NRECA, and ERCOT reporting.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in utility or cooperative environment.
  • Associate degree required; bachelor's preferred and may substitute for experience.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills for high-stress environments.
  • Knowledge of SCADA, OMS, and switching procedures is highly desirable.
  • Valid driver's license and knowledge of safety rules.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise system operators and coordinate switching operations to maintain continuous, reliable power distribution.
  • Process outage calls, direct response crews, and ensure compliance with Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Use SCADA and OMS to monitor grid conditions, analyze outage data, and operate equipment remotely.
  • Oversee daily logs, power system diagrams, and system map updates for regulatory reporting.
  • Manage Texas 811 locate requests and communicate with field crews and members.
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate operations personnel for productivity and growth.

Job description

Do you want to have a career that is responsible for ensuring reliable electricity to your community? Farmers EC is currently seeking an System Operations Supervisor to join our rapidly growing electric cooperative.

The System Operations Supervisor oversees all aspects of the cooperative's system communications, delivering a responsive and reliable flow of information between members, field crews, staff, other utilities, and emergency personnel. This position plays a critical role in managing dispatch operations and ensuring the quick resolution of both planned and unplanned system disturbances.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Operations & Dispatch: Supervise system operators and coordinate switching operations to maintain continuous, reliable power distribution.
  • Outage & Emergency Response: Process outage calls, direct response crews to remedy power interruptions, and ensure full compliance with the cooperative’s Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Grid Monitoring & SCADA: Utilize SCADA and Outage Management Systems (OMS) to monitor grid conditions, analyze outage data, and operate electrical equipment remotely to mitigate threats and improve system reliability.
  • Compliance & Mapping: Oversee daily logs, power system diagrams, and system map updates. Compile key data for regulatory reporting to bodies including the PUC, NRECA, and ERCOT.
  • Field & Member Coordination: Manage Texas 811 utility locate requests, relay critical instructions to field crews, and resolve member inquiries or complaints with superior customer service.
  • Team Leadership: Train, motivate, and evaluate operations system personnel to ensure high productivity and professional growth.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a utility or cooperative environment with responsibilities in communications, engineering, or system operations.
  • Education: Associate degree required; a bachelor’s or higher degree in a related field is preferred and may substitute for years of experience.
  • Skills & Abilities: Analytical mindset with the ability to remain calm, composed, and effective under high-stress, fast-paced situations. Strong organizational, problem-solving, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient with personal computers, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), and Crystal Reports. Knowledge of SCADA, OMS, and backfeeding/switching procedures is strongly desired.
  • Licensing & Safety: Valid driver's license required. Solid understanding of industry safety rules, regulations, and first aid practices.
Position & Compensation Details

  • Work Environment & Schedule: Based out of a standard office setting with occasional outdoor field requirements during severe weather. Requires flexibility for irregular hours, weekends, holidays, emergency outage response, and participation in the "Supervisor On-Call" rotation.
