Job summary

First Interstate seeks a System Engineer III to design, install, administer, and optimize the company’s storage, computer environment, and servers—including Windows, Linux/Unix, Citrix, hypervisors, and related components to ensure high performance of various business applications.

This role applies advanced knowledge of the job area to lead initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and potentially serve as a team lead.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Microsoft solutions: AD, Group Policy, DNS, File/Print, SCCM.
• Windows Server 2016/2019 and newer versions knowledge.
• Linux knowledge: RHEL and Ubuntu.
• Experience with Windows 10 and newer OS.
• Networking fundamentals incl. TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP.
• Familiarity with load balancing (NetScaler, BIG-IP).
• Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V) and backup/replication.
• Cloud familiarity with AWS/Azure/Google Cloud.
• Scripting in PowerShell, Python, Bash to automate tasks.
• Understanding of cybersecurity, firewalls, IDS/IPS, vulnerability mgmt.
• Ability to monitor systems for performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Ensure availability of client and server applications.
• Configure new implementations and manage server environments.
• Maintain data center security, integrity, and safety.
• Monitor resources and perform capacity planning.
• Test disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
• Assist in audit walkthroughs with stakeholders.
• Meet uptime, performance, and security targets within budgets.
• Diagram physical and logical network layouts.
• Automate routine tasks with scripts and basic programs.
• Lead projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Coach peers and tackle complex problems.
