Job summary

Freedom is seeking a Senior System Engineer to lead a Life Cycle Sustainment and modernization team focused on education, learning, and training applications in government programs.

You will drive process improvements, work with cross-functional teams and government leads, and promote agile/DevOps practices across the development lifecycle while mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative, secure environment.

Qualifications

  • 14+ years of System Engineer experience on large-scale programs.
  • Experience leading diverse teams and implementing agile development methodologies.
  • Strong communication with government and contractor leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Provide System Engineering leadership to an existing Life Cycle Sustainment (LCS) and modernization team for education, learning, and training applications that are vital to the Government enterprise.
  • Conduct process evaluations of corporate enterprise applications to identify areas for improvement while ensuring adherence to enterprise standards for development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, Government Product Leads, and Leadership Teams to define, prioritize, and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes and facilitate the adoption of agile and DevOps practices.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including process standards, program-level templates and best practice guides.
  • Conduct regular assessments to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for optimization within the application development lifecycle.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and issues in the systems and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to promote knowledge sharing and enhance the technical skills of the team members.
  • Engage with Government Leadership, Product Leads and development teams to identify technical issues and provide guidance and coordinate solutions to resolve them effectively.
  • Participate in incident response and problem-solving activities to address critical system issues and minimize downtime.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior system engineers and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to enterprise application development and support.
Qualifications
  • Fourteen (14) years of experience as a System Engineer on programs of similar scope; a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline is required; five (5) years of additional SE experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience leading a diverse team; experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Strong project leadership, risk identification, and communication skills with all levels of government and contractor leadership.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and products.
  • Experience developing and updating technical documentation including project schedules.
  • Experience with requirements management and working with customers to define done.
  • Security clearance: TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph.

The estimated salary range is $185,000-$215,000 (annualized USD). This range reflects typical pay and is influenced by location, education, skills, experience, and organizational needs.
