Job summary

Aquent is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer in Redmond, WA to operate and enhance enterprise network observability platforms across Windows/Linux VMs, cloud services, and CI/CD tooling.

You will automate tasks with Bash/PowerShell/Python, manage on-call rotations, perform disaster recovery testing, and contribute to security, reliability, and cost-effective infrastructure in a large-scale environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• 5-7 years of enterprise IT systems/network/SRE experience.
• Strong understanding of network observability and enterprise networking protocols.
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms or similar environments.
• Experience with capacity planning and audit processes.

About the Role

Step into a pivotal site reliability engineering role within a core engineering team, where you will be instrumental in the operation of sophisticated enterprise network observability platforms. These platforms, a blend of commercially available and internally developed systems, are the backbone for ingesting critical network telemetry. The data you help manage and maintain will provide essential insights, enabling network engineers to operate with unparalleled efficiency across a massive, enterprise-scale environment. Your daily work will directly enhance system reliability, security, and performance, ensuring the seamless flow of information and robust infrastructure health.

What You'll Do

• Administer and operate Windows and Linux virtual machines hosted in a major cloud platform, ensuring continuous compliance with security and configuration standards.
• Maintain vital network observability platforms, including logging systems and network daemon management tools, through regular upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and authoring rules using regular expressions.
• Provide essential support for enterprise network performance management platforms and other network observability solutions.
• Manage assigned projects and program components, delivering services in alignment with established objectives.
• Identify opportunities for and automate tasks using Bash, Powershell, or Python scripting.
• Troubleshoot complex network observability configurations, software applications, and operating systems through routine maintenance.
• Deploy, configure, and manage cloud services on platforms like a major cloud platform, focusing on scalability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Implement DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code, to automate and streamline development and deployment processes.
• Perform business continuity and disaster recovery failover testing as appropriate.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide critical support.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, computer engineering, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• 5-7 years of enterprise experience in an IT systems, network, or site reliability engineering role.
• Strong understanding of network observability, including network monitoring protocols such as network protocol 1, network protocol 2, network protocol 3, and network protocol 4.
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms or similar cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of enterprise networking protocols.
• Experience with system capacity planning and functional configuration and audit processes.
• Experience with system planning and capacity tools and analyses.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Proficiency in automating tasks using Bash, Powershell, or Python.
• Proficient with regular expressions.
• Experience with enterprise network performance management platforms and/or network observability solutions or similar observability platforms.
• Experienced with various source control platforms.
• Working knowledge of automation tools and playbooks.
• Intermediate knowledge of data query languages.
• Experience and exposure to commercially available AI platforms.
