Job summary

The Josef Group Inc. seeks Junior and Mid-level Systems Engineers to support funded Task Orders by contributing to planning, design, development, and implementation of mission-critical systems.

Ideal candidates work directly with customers, developers, and stakeholders across the Agile lifecycle, from requirements gathering to delivery, while communicating effectively with technical and non-technical audiences and assisting development teams in delivering high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience working directly with customers and stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document functional requirements.
• Ability to translate requirements into actionable Jira epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Experience performing functional and/or manual testing of software applications.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain and present technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of software development concepts and processes.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, mission-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Requirements Gathering & Analysis: Elicit, analyze, and document functional requirements from government customers and stakeholders.
• User Story Development: Translate requirements into Jira epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Backlog & Sprint Management: Groom the sprint backlog, ensure work is scoped and prioritized.
• Developer Support: Liaise between stakeholders and developers to answer questions and remove blockers.

We have an immediate opening for Junior and Mid-level Systems Engineers to support funded Task Orders to contribute to the planning, design, development, and implementation of mission-critical systems.

This role is ideal for a technically minded systems engineer who enjoys working directly with customers, developers, and systems engineers to turn mission needs into well-defined software capabilities. The Systems Engineer will play an active role throughout the Agile development lifecycle from gathering and decomposing requirements through development, testing, customer demonstrations, and delivery.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a collaborative environment, communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and helping development teams deliver high-quality, mission-focused solutions.

Responsibilities

• Requirements Gathering & Analysis: Work directly with government customers and stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document functional requirements. Decompose high-level requirements into clear, actionable technical requirements.
• User Story Development: Translate requirements into well-defined Jira epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria that provide developers with clear implementation objectives.
• Backlog & Sprint Management: Help curate and groom the sprint backlog, ensuring work is appropriately scoped, prioritized, sequenced, and ready for development.
• Developer Support: Serve as a liaison between stakeholders and developers, answering requirements and implementation questions and helping identify and remove blockers throughout the sprint.
• Functional Testing: Perform initial functional/manual testing of newly developed features to verify that implementation meets defined requirements and acceptance criteria before formal QA and customer review.
• Customer Demonstrations: Present completed features and new capabilities to government customers, collect feedback, and translate that feedback into requirements for future iterations.
• UX Collaboration: Work closely with UX designers to incorporate usability and design considerations into requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Agile Development: Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Maintain close communication with systems engineers, software developers, UX teams, QA personnel, and government stakeholders throughout the development lifecycle.
