The City of Durango is a purpose-driven organization with more than 400 full-time and 300 part-time and seasonal employees across 15 departments, all working together to provide a wide range of services that keep our community running every day. From public safety and utilities to parks and recreation, our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality services that enhance the lives of all who live, work, and visit here.

At the city, we focus on continually improving how we work and serve the community. This effort is called the Trail to Excellence (T2E), and every employee plays a part in it. Whether you work outdoors, in an office, or lead a team, your daily efforts connect to the city’s mission of providing excellent service and reaching the city’s vision of being a multigenerational community that is authentic, diverse, engaged, thriving, and environmentally responsible. The full details of this vision are outlined in the city’s strategic plan.

As a member of our team, your work will be meaningful because:

  • Your ideas help shape citywide improvements.
  • The work you do ties directly into measurable goals.
  • You'll be part of a system that values collaboration, innovation, and results.

We're looking for team members who share our core values of teamwork, dependability, professionalism, service, respect, innovation, and wellbeing — and who are excited to make a difference in the community we serve.

What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Administer and maintain Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Exchange, and Entra ID using PowerShell to manage accounts, permissions, policies, and licenses.
  • Manage Microsoft 365 services including Exchange, e-discovery, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Microsoft Forms, and Power Automate; troubleshoot issues, analyze application needs, and introduce new features to City staff.
  • Support the City’s cybersecurity environment, including firewalls, antivirus, email security, data loss prevention, and Proofpoint.
  • Participate in cybersecurity incident management and assist with security policies, procedures, and awareness efforts.
  • Maintain email security protocols including DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC), and Sender Policy Framework (SPF), along with email signature and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) mail systems.
  • Support Teams Phone and other assigned infrastructure, servers, and business applications.
  • Coordinate with City staff, system stakeholders, vendors, and IT colleagues using the help desk system to provide superior customer service, technical support, training, research, and recommendations for continuous system improvements.
  • Administer the City and IT intranets and website pages, while supporting internal IT communications, training, and the monthly IT digital newsletter.
  • Participate in technology budgeting, project work, procurement, professional development, and deployment of new systems and improvements.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities, contribute to broader IT support as needed, and participate in the IT on-call rotation.

You Have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with coursework in management information systems, computer science, geographic information systems (GIS), business administration, or a related field.
  • Four years of increasingly responsible experience supporting desktops, laptops, tablets, servers, or information systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A+ or Network+ certification.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Entra ID, Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and PowerShell.
  • Ability to obtain Security+ certification within 12 months of the start date

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Can work across multiple systems while understanding how they connect.
  • Approach technical issues thoughtfully and develop practical solutions.
  • Can explain technical information clearly to people with different levels of technical knowledge.
