Amazon Photos is seeking a System Development Engineer to develop solutions for complex internal systems. You will ensure adherence to engineering best practices, and build systems that are reliable, scalable, and maintainable. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate across multiple teams, including engineering, technical design, and legal partners. You will also serve as a mentor and role model in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Who we are looking for: An experienced System Development Engineer with a track record of delivering quality software. You embrace automation and have experience in automating scalable processes. You are familiar with infrastructure scalability, end-to-end deployment processes, and building systems that support internal tooling, regulatory compliance, and customer trust and safety.

Key responsibilities:

1. Design, develop, and deploy internal tooling to enhance scalability and resilience.
2. Develop and deploy systems that ensure regulatory compliance.
3. Create systems to maintain customer trust and safety.
4. Write clean, maintainable code and review peer code.
5. Collaborate on design approaches, prototype new tech, and evaluate solutions.
6. Optimize systems for speed and scalability.
7. Enhance operational excellence, including latency and scalability.
8. Define, implement, and promote best practices and standards.
9. Work with product managers, legal, and partner teams to develop and execute requirements for complex problems.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of professional software development experience
• 2+ years designing or architecting scalable systems
• Experience automating, deploying, supporting large-scale infrastructure
• Knowledge of networking, storage, operating systems fundamentals
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with distributed systems at scale
• Knowledge of databases and SQL
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
