Role Summary

The System Controls Engineer will work as part of the Engineering team to develop, implement, & validate electric propulsion control systems for electric drive mining vehicles. These propulsion systems will include control of electrical power input from an alternator, catenary, batteries, or other sources that feed traction and auxiliary inverters used to drive propulsion motors and auxiliary loads. The propulsion control system also interfaces with other onboard and offboard vehicle systems. These Mining Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) have payload capacities ranging from 100 to 400 tons.

Apply control theory and mathematical modeling to design control systems.

Verification and validation using simulation, lab component, sub-system, system, and on-truck testing.

Complete applicable design reviews and documentation.

Create applicable requirements documentation for subsystem, component, and software development teams.

Support factory build of prototype & standard production systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science or equivalent

2+ years of engineering experience

Engineering design and controls development - vehicle control & propulsion system preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

Model based designing tools such as MatLab/Simulink and/or MatrixX.

Modeling and analysis of electro-mechanical systems.

Modeling tools such as Simscape, Amesim, Adams, Easy5.

Real-time simulation environments such dSpace, Opal-Rt, PLECS.

Successful experience working in multi-location engineering teams involved in design and validation activities
