Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) in Austin, TX, is seeking an Attorney II in the System Contracting Department. The role focuses on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating procurement contracts and related documents to ensure compliance with state and federal law.

The attorney will counsel agency staff on contracting matters, participate in negotiations with vendors, and represent HHSC in contract disputes and protests. Telework eligibility is noted; a Texas law license is required.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Texas and two years’ experience preferred.
• Experience with contract drafting, review and negotiation.

Responsibilities

• Review, revise and draft complex contracts and solicitations.
• Support staff in negotiations with vendors and advise on contracts.
• Advise on federal and state contract laws and regulations; draft legal instruments.
• Represent the system in procurement matters, negotiations and disputes.
