Job summary

The University of Cincinnati is seeking a System Administrator 2 (Cloud) to support and deploy central IT services across GCP, AWS and Azure.

You will work with senior staff, provide incident support, and participate in deployment initiatives within central IT. Candidates should have cloud experience and strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, CS, IS or related field is required.
  • Six years of relevant experience can replace education requirement.
  • Experience implementing enterprise IT technologies is required.

Responsibilities

  • Support and deploy technology for central IT services, including storage, AD, DNS, servers, and virtualization.
  • Configure and manage enterprise storage and server hardware/software; travel as needed.
  • Monitor system performance and collaborate with clients, staff and vendors on requests.
  • Troubleshoot failures and escalate to senior staff; assist Tier 1 on-call support.
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation per SOP; maintain docs for systems and services.
  • Ensure security policies prevent unauthorized access and abuse.

Job Overview

The System Administrator 2 (Cloud) position is a member ofthe System Administration Team at the university and as suchsupports, maintains, monitors and implements the university'senterprise systems and services within GCP, AWS and Azure cloudenvironments.

This position works with senior members of the SystemAdministration staff to provide incident support, fulfill customerrequests, and participate in the deployment of systems and servicesas part of the department's ongoing initiatives. This is anintermediate level professional System Administration positionreporting to the System Administration Manager within centralIT.

Essential Functions
  • Support and deploy technology to support servicesprovided by central IT, including data storage, Active Directory,DNS, servers, cloud technologies and virtualization; specificduties will vary according to the life cycle and the technicalcomplexity of the systems and services.
  • Configure, maintain and manage enterprise classstorage and server hardware, software and services. Travelthroughout the university’s campuses and to other remote facilitiesas necessary.
  • Monitor utilization and performance of systems andservice; test and evaluate systems to eliminate problems and makeimprovements.Collaborate with clients, technical staff and vendorson service request fulfillment.
  • Troubleshoot system failures escalating to seniortechnicians or vendors as appropriate; monitor incoming incidentreports and collaborate with departments and end users to resolveproblems.
  • Participate in 24x7 on call rotation responding toservice outages as defined in the department’s standard operatingprocedures; serve as the initial System Administration escalationcontact for Tier 1 (help desk) support while oncall.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for systems andservices, managed by the department, to be used by other engineersor the university community.
  • Ensure the security of the university’s sharedservices by implementing the policies and practices that preventand monitor unauthorized access, misuse or denial of service to acomputer or other network-accessible resources.
  • Serve as a competent professional sharing attainedknowledge with peers.

Required Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology,Computer Science, Information Systems, or a relatedfield.
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience and/orother specialized training can be used in lieu of educationrequirement.
