General Database Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide guidance and support to Application team.
2. Install, tune, implement and upgrade DBMS installations.
3. Write and deploy SQL patches.
4. Process work accurately and in a timely manner, always paying attention to detail.
5. Proactively and regularly make recommendations for system improvements.
6. Collate, prepare, and present statistical information for internal and external use.

Responsibilities:

1. Write and maintain database programs to ensure they can handle the flow of traffic and the amount of data being stored in the database.
2. Design new databases based on company needs, data storage needs, and the number of users accessing the database.
3. Monitor databases and related systems to ensure high functionality.
4. Write new support programs and scripts for databases to deploy, operate, increase data storage capacity, and fix existing database problems.
5. Troubleshoot platform-specific performance and check for potential problems that affect database functionality.
6. Debug existing database scripts and programs.
7. Review daily, weekly, and monthly database reports to spot problems and ensure peak performance.

Requirements:

1. Expertise in installation, upgrade & patching of different components in SAP ASE/Sybase, Redis, Postgres and experience with the other platforms we manage listed in the Duties and Responsibilities.
2. Experience with replication including setup, troubleshooting issues, and failovers.
3. Monitor all systems (work processes, users, system logs, short dumps, locks, developer traces, system traces, disk space, etc.).
4. Ensure production uptime service levels are maintained, including backup, recovery, refresh, performance tuning, and security.
5. Provide data cleansing services, verify data integrity, and implement access controls.
6. Provide routine maintenance including problem defect analysis and resolution, space, storage, object management, physical database layout, rollback segment management, and temporary space management.
7. Experience with schema creation, deployment, and maintenance.
8. Experience with setting up and configuring auditing, audit trails.
9. Carry out recovery of databases in the event of log full or system crash.
10. Troubleshoot issues related to the installation for our supported platforms.
11. Knowledge of disaster recovery setup and maintenance.
12. Automation using shell-script, Python, Ansible.
