Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Sybase Architect to optimize performance, reliability, and security across hybrid teams. The role focuses on managing production databases, configuring ASE servers, and ensuring high availability through replication.

You will support database migrations, patches, and incident response while coordinating with multiple geographies and time zones. The successful candidate will have strong Shell scripting, troubleshooting, and monitoring skills, with experience in cron-based

Qualifications

• Experience with handling incident/change management processes in a large production environment.
• Experience upgrading/migrating databases and applying patches.
• Proficient in shell scripting and automation for maintenance tasks.
• Knowledge of high availability solutions and replication in Sybase ASE.
• Familiarity with ticketing tools (Remedy/ITSM) for issue tracking.

Responsibilities

• Manage production environment databases including deployment, maintenance, and staging setups.
• Configure ASE server databases on Unix/Windows environments.
• Install and configure ASE Sybase across environments and manage replication.
• Ensure high availability through replication and failover planning.
• Create devices, users, and database options; monitor server performance.
• Tune database performance and address database corruption issues.
• Monitor data server logs and growth; set thresholds for data/log segments.
• Manage logins/users/aliases and coordinate with Sybase teams as needed.
• Back up, recover, refresh UAT/development data servers; monitor Linux performance.
• Oversee scheduled jobs via cron and track job health; participate in on-call support.

What You’ll Do In The Role

• Experience in managing Production environment like implementing, maintaining Production, development and staging databases
• Experience in Setting up/Configure ASE server databases on Unix/Windows
• Experience in Installation and configuration of ASE Sybase on different environments and knowledge of Replication
• Expertise in Supporting high availability of servers/databases using Replication
• Creation of Devices/user databases setting database options
• Experience in Performance Tuning of databases
• Deal with Database corruption
• Data server error log monitoring.
• Monitoring growth of the databases to take proactive action
• Setting up the thresholds for data/log segments.
• Creation of logins/users/aliases.
• Contacting the Sybase people when required.
• Performance tuning and Code Optimization.
• Backup & Recovery, refreshing UAT/development data servers.
• Performance monitoring of Linux boxes.
• Maintaining the capacity management for keeping track of all available device spaces.
• Scheduling of the periodic jobs using cron utility.
• Keeping track of all scheduled jobs & taking necessary actions when failed
• Supporting on-call for any ad-hoc issues.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

• Experience in all ticketing tools like Remedy/ITSM.
• Experience in Database Migrations/Upgradations
• Experience in Patch Management
• Good Knowledge on Shell Scripting
• Process knowledge on Incident Management & Change management
• Good Trouble shooting & Performance Tuning skills
• Physical Standby database configuration and maintenance for disaster recovery & business continuity.
• Experience in handling of Performance tuning issues
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Be able to work with team members located in multiple geographies and time zones
• Be flexible and willing to work in shifts
• Sybase ASE Certification if any (optional

We are offering an annual salary between $99,000-$112,000. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
