Be the wiring expert behind engineered-to-order power equipmentPowell designs and builds engineered-to-order switchgear and electrical equipment for the power generation industry. As a Switchgear Wiring Technician in our Electrical Assembly department, you’ll turn detailed schematics into reliable, neatly routed wiring inside complex assemblies—working shoulder-to-shoulder with electricians and technicians to bring custom equipment to life. Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Monday–Thursday, 2:30pm–1:00am.A day in the roleYour shift kicks off with a safety huddle before you review point-to-point wiring diagrams and plan your layout. You’ll:Use hand tools such as crimpers, wire strippers, torque tools, and calibrating tools to complete precision tasksRoute and bundle conductors to Powell wiring standards for a clean, serviceable buildLay out, install, drill, and tap devices on doors and back pansInstall nameplates and space heaters as specifiedInstall and terminate current transformers (CTs)Perform continuity checks using buzzers/testersPull, terminate, and dress wiring for MCC, switchgear (SWGR), and harnesses per wiring diagramsPerform in-process inspections to verify workmanship and complianceKeep your area orderly and organized, and participate in all safety meetings to strengthen our safety cultureWhat you’ll work onFrom interpreting electrical schematics and blueprints to collaborating with electricians and other technicians, you’ll ensure our electrical systems meet industry standards, operate reliably, and are built with safety in mind.Minimum qualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED preferredAbility to read point-to-point wiring diagramsComfortable reading and using a tape measureBasic English communication skills (written and verbal)Safe use of hand and power toolsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs using proper techniquePreferred qualificationsBasic computer literacy (an asset)Familiarity with calibrationAble to read and interpret spec sheets and master copy drawingsSkills, abilities, and working stylePositive attitude and eagerness to learnFollows guidance from Senior and Lead AssemblersReliably meets commitments and stays focused on goalsSelf-starter who can handle multiple tasks and drive resultsContinuously improves processes and seeks efficiencyAdaptable to new ideas, technology, methods, and product changesCustomer-focused mindset—understands today’s customers fuel tomorrow’s growthActs with integrity and makes ethical decisionsConscientious, precise, thorough, and dependableCollaborates effectively within the team and across departmentsLearns and adheres to manufacturing policies and practices to meet ISO requirementsWorking and environmental conditionsSafety-sensitive position within a temperature-controlled manufacturing/industrial setting with occasional outdoor tasksPPE required at all times (e.g., hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harness as needed); respirators when requiredWork from step ladders, A-frame ladders, extension ladders, and scaffolding as neededPerform tasks at heights typically up to 30 feet using appropriate lift equipmentPhysical requirementsMaintain balance and agility to avoid falls while walking, standing, crouching, and climbing/descending stairsFrequent bending at the waist and knees with repetitive reaching/extension of arms and handsProlonged standing and walking (50–300 feet) with only occasional sittingFrequent stair climbing throughout the shiftFrequent work with both arms above shoulder height and with arms fully extendedContinuous use of upper extremities to apply or exert up to 50 lbs of forceFrequent, extended use of hand tools such as tin snips, hammers, and power tools (including some vibrating tools)
