Job summary

Intelletec Energy in Commerce City, CO is hiring a Switchgear Technician to repair and refurbish padmounted and metal-enclosed switchgear. The role is based in the Commerce City facility with occasional travel to customer sites.

You will inspect, disassemble, refurbish, and reassemble gear to engineered specs, fabricate busbar systems, and install CTs, PTs, relays, and metering equipment. The job requires 2+ years of shop experience and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Experience refurbishing switchgear and installing busbar.
• 2+ years shop/manufacturing experience.
• Basic knowledge of electrical equipment, hand tools and power tools.
• Valid driver's license for travel with company truck.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections on medium-voltage switchgear and document damage, wear, corrosion, contamination, and missing parts.
• Disassemble, clean, repair, and refurbish switchgear compartments, structures, mechanisms, bus, and electrical components.
• Reassemble switchgear to engineered specs and customer requirements, including layout modifications.
• Fabricate and install copper and aluminum busbar systems.
• Install and wire CTs, PTs, control components, relays, and metering equipment.
• Install and replace fuses, fuse mountings, load-interrupter switches, and circuit breakers.
• Operate forklifts and other industrial equipment within limits.
• Travel up to 25% for on-site work; per diem and travel expenses covered.

Switchgear Technician — Commerce City, CO

The Company: A U.S.-based industrial electrical equipment provider specializing in repair, refurbishment, and customization of medium-voltage switchgear for utility and industrial customers.

The Role: This role repairs and refurbishes a wide variety of padmounted and metal-enclosed switchgear, working primarily out of the Commerce City facility with occasional travel to customer sites. The team handles everything from inspection and disassembly through full reassembly to engineered specs, including busbar fabrication, CT/PT and relay wiring, and fuse/breaker/switch installation.

What You'll Do:

• Perform internal and external inspections on medium-voltage switchgear, documenting damage, wear, corrosion, contamination, and missing parts
• Disassemble, clean, repair, and refurbish switchgear compartments, structures, mechanisms, bus, and electrical components
• Reassemble switchgear to engineered specifications and customer requirements, including layout modifications and customization
• Fabricate and install copper and aluminum busbar systems
• Install and wire CTs, PTs, control components, relays, and metering equipment
• Install and replace medium-voltage fuses, fuse mountings, load-interrupter switches, and circuit breakers
• Operate forklifts and other industrial equipment within capacity/load limits
• Travel up to 25% (negotiable) via company truck for on-site work; per diem and travel expenses covered

Must-Haves:

• HS Diploma/GED
• Experience refurbishing padmounted or metal-enclosed switchgear and installing busbar
• 2+ years shop/manufacturing experience
• Basic knowledge of electrical equipment, hand tools, and power tools
• Valid driver's license (company truck use required for travel)
• Ability to work outdoors in varied climates

Nice-to-Haves:

• Electrical testing experience on switchgear, VFIs, or relays
• First Aid/CPR, AED, OSHA 10 certification

Compensation & Benefits: $28–$50/hr depending on experience. Health and dental insurance, 401(k), 2 weeks sick + 2 weeks vacation, federal holidays off.
