Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line is seeking a Switcher Tractor Operator in the United States. You will move trailers between staging areas and docks, assist with loading/unloading, and coordinate with dispatch to optimize yard operations.

The role demands careful attention to safety, daily maintenance checks, and the ability to perform dock duties as needed. A high school diploma and tractor-trailer experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
• Experience driving a tractor-trailer.
• Experience using handheld computers/scanners.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must pass drug and alcohol tests where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Back trailers to loading docks and assist with loading/unloading.
• Stay in contact with dispatcher for instructions and changes.
• Perform daily maintenance checks on the switcher unit.
• Fuel the switcher tractor at shift end.
• Couple/uncouple tractor-trailer units and connect brake lines as needed.
• Complete required paperwork at end of shift.
• Work on the dock at least one full day per week as assigned.
• Follow safety policies and operating procedures at all times.
• Spend minimum 20% of weekly hours loading freight onto trailers.
