Job summary

AdventHealth is seeking a full-time Switchboard Operator for our Orlando, FL location. You will handle calls, assist patients and staff, and coordinate with departments from a central desk at 7727 Lake Underhill Rd, Orlando, FL 32822.

Role requires strong communication, proofreading of messages, and the ability to work nights and weekends. Benefits begin Day One and support whole-person well-being for a caring, mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• Must read, speak, listen, understand, and disseminate communications effectively.
• Typing speed of 30 wpm.
• Able to learn clinical terminology.
• Capable of multi-tasking in a high-volume environment.
• Make independent, logical decisions in critical situations.
• Adapt to frequent data changes in communication systems.
• Maintain calm, courteous demeanor during emergencies or difficult callers.
• Strong independent worker with good judgement.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• MS Office proficiency preferred.
• Bilingual skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide courteous, professional service to patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
• Answer calls promptly and forward to proper departments.
• Demonstrate skill when executing overhead announcements.
• Update and maintain on-call lists for staff.
• Forward calls to proper departments, patient rooms, or staff as needed.
• Communicate with adolescents, adults, and geriatric callers using service standards.
• Contact key personnel after hours and maintain an operational call log.
• Know hospital disaster codes and announce them per procedure.
• Maintain excellent customer service and respectful stakeholder relations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Schedule: FT/40 Hours Weekdays, Weekends 3pm-11pm, need flexibility to cover 10:30am - 7pm as needed

Location: 7727 Lake Underhill Rd, Orlando, FL 32822

• Projects a positive and helpful demeanor while working with patients, visitors, physicians, and staff.
• Maintains a courteous and professional manner when answering calls.
• Demonstrates skill and proficiency when executing overhead announcements
• Updates and maintains all on call lists for staff when notified of changes.
• Forwards calls promptly to proper departments, patient rooms, or staff as necessary.
• Demonstrates communication skills appropriate for interactions with adolescent, adult, and geriatric callers, using service standards and service recovery techniques.
• Contacts key personnel after hours as needed. Maintains an operational call log of all activities, requests, and issues.
• Cultivates accurate knowledge of hospital disaster codes and announces them efficiently according to procedure.
• Provides excellent customer service and maintains respectful relationships with all stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Competent knowledge in standard computer applications with an ability to type 30 wpm [Required]
• Capable of learning and retaining a vast amount of information including clinical terminology [Required]
