Job summary

Prime Healthcare's St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO is seeking a PBX Operator to join the communications team.

This per diem, part-time role covers evenings (Fri-Sat 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) and includes greeting visitors, routing calls, and supporting emergency communications. The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or equivalent, prior PBX or switchboard experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in office or receptionist roles helpful.
• Effective written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Answer and route incoming calls to departments, physicians, or staff promptly.
• Greet visitors and direct them to the appropriate contacts; handle emergency calls as needed.
• Monitor and maintain the telephone system; log messages accurately.
• Support communication during hospital emergencies or critical events.
• Maintain confidentiality in accordance with hospital policies.

Hours: 12-hour shifts – Fri-Sat 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Location: St. Joseph Medical Center - Kansas CIty, MO

We are seeking aPBX Operator,also referred to as aSwitchboard Operatoror Communication Operator in our communications department.The PBX Operatoris responsible foranswering the switchboard and overhead pages, greeting visitors, and directing them to theappropriate departments, while alsomonitoringhospital alarms and maintaining knowledge of the policies and procedures for all hospital emergency codes.This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PRN as needed.

Responsibilities

• Answer and route incoming calls to theappropriate hospitaldepartments, physicians, or staff promptly and courteously


• Assistvisitors and callers by providing information or directing them to theappropriate contacts, and promptly handle emergency calls by connecting them to response teams or on-call personnel


• Monitor andmaintainthe telephone system by reporting malfunctions to technical support and keepingaccuratecall logs and messages for staff and departments


• Support communication during hospital emergencies or critical events by coordinating calls and information flow


• Ensure compliance with hospital policies andmaintainconfidentiality when handling sensitive information

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required (effective 4/1/14 for all new hires).


• Previous PBX experience preferred.


• Previous experience in office or receptionist.


• Effective written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.


• Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.


• Analytical and problem-solving skills.


• Customer Services experience preferred.
