Qualifications

Job description

Our client is a growing manufacturer supporting critical power, electrical infrastructure, and industrial technology environments. The organization designs and manufactures complex low-voltage electrical systems used across commercial, industrial, utility, and mission-critical applications. As the business continues to grow, they are expanding their engineering team to support increasing project demand and product complexity.

The Switchboard Engineer II will be responsible for the design and development of low-voltage switchboards and panelboards, supporting projects from concept through production. This role will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to develop detailed designs, electrical drawings, and large-scale assemblies while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards and customer requirements.

The Environment

This role operates within a fast-paced electrical manufacturing and engineering environment focused on custom low-voltage power distribution systems. The position supports highly engineered products involving large assemblies, complex BOM structures, and strict compliance requirements.

The environment is collaborative and execution-driven, requiring strong attention to detail, cross-functional communication, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. The role works closely with manufacturing and operations teams to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and aligned with project timelines.

Success for the Switchboard Engineer II includes:

  • Designing accurate and manufacturable low-voltage switchboards and panelboards
  • Developing 3D assemblies, sheet metal designs, and detailed electrical drawings
  • Ensuring compliance with UL standards, NEC requirements, and internal engineering standards
  • Supporting efficient communication between engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and project stakeholders
  • Delivering high-quality designs with strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Supporting project execution through problem-solving and technical collaboration
  • Managing large BOM structures and electrical layouts efficiently and accurately
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across engineering and design processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 4–8 years of experience within low-voltage switchboard, switchgear, or power distribution environments
  • Prior experience working with UL891 switchboards or similar systems required
  • Strong proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD software; Autodesk experience preferred
  • Experience with control circuits, logic, and electrical wiring diagrams
  • Familiarity with UL891, UL67, UL508A, UL1558, and National Electric Code requirements
  • Experience sizing conductors and overcurrent protection devices (OCPDs)
  • Ability to manage complex assemblies, BOMs, and technical documentation
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
