Job summary

Novo Distribution Llc in Dallas, TX seeks a Switch Driver responsible for moving trailers, securing loads, and preparing shipments. You will operate a semi truck, back trailers to docks, and follow DOT safety rules.

Responsibilities

• May assist in duties within the warehouse and perform other duties as assigned.

Position SummaryThe Switch Driver is responsible for driving the trailers in and out of the yard/warehouse and securing loads of product to prepare the trailers for shipment. They should possess adequate communication skills in order to understand written and spoken instructions, excellent safety awareness and the ability to perform some manual labor. They need to be able to comfortably operate a semi truck with a trailer and must be able to back trailers up to dock doors, often with other trailers on either side of the dock.Essential ResponsibilitiesDrives a tractor trailer or straight truck in a safe manner to staging area for loading.Perform inspection of the tractor and trailer per company and DOT policies and regulations.Check trailer to assure all product and packing slips are on proper loads.Opens and closes curtains and secures loads by ratcheting down straps on trailers to facilitate loading product for transport.Communicates any issues with tractor/trailer to Supervisor.Follows all safety rules and operates equipment in a safety-conscious manner.May assist in duties within the warehouse.Performs other duties as assigned.Basic Qualifications (Required)Effectively perform all essential functions, including physical requirementsAcceptable motor vehicle record.CDL Class A or B certificationBasic math, interpersonal/team and reasoning skills.Use of proper PPE and company approved tools while remaining aware of possible hazards and maintaining a safe work environment.Ability to read, understand and carry out written procedures and standard work instructions.Must be 18 years of age or older.Flexibility in scheduling – able to work overtime as needed.Ability to learn product inventory and warehouse layout and operations.Preferred QualificationsOne year preferred commercial driving experience.Previous experience in a distribution or manufacturing facility.Travel RequirementsNo travel requirements.Physical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Able to withstand exposure to seasonal weather elements and wood dust.Ability to pass and maintain an active DOT Physical.Able to withstand exposure to seasonal weather elements and wood dust.Ability to sit for extended periods of time.Ability to get in and out of Tractor independently.Ability to use hands to manipulate, handle or feel.Reaching above shoulder height.Reaching with hands and arms.Operating and moving equipment/driving.Lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
