Job summary

Deringer--ney-Inc. in Bloomfield, CT is seeking a Swiss Machine Operator to run screw machines and produce parts meeting quality standards. The role includes setup, inspection, and ongoing process improvement while maintaining a safe, clean work area.

Candidates should have high school education, blueprint reading skills, and prior machine operator experience preferred. You will work with the department programmer and supervisor to ensure accurate documentation and efficient production.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safe operation of Screw machines including all key functions of the control panel.
  • Thorough understanding of machining process for the purpose of trouble shooting and correcting defects.
  • Ability to work on more than one machine simultaneously taking advantage of cycle time to do other functions.
  • Functional knowledge of MeasureLink.
  • Ability to perform dimensional measurements utilizing Shadowgraphs, Micrometers, Calipers, Pin Gages, and Depth Gages.
  • Thorough understanding of the shop order and QAP requirements.
  • Understanding of specific customer requirements by use of blueprints and item QAP's.
  • Ability to maintain all documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of M2M functions as they pertain to inventory transactions and labor ticket entry.
  • Capable of making dependable judgement decisions of quality aspects not related to quantitative measurement.
  • Ability to communicate with and participate with team members.
  • Ability to modify or sharpen tooling as required.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies all shop order documentation matches the Job Order, Print, Setup and Offset Sheets.
  • Monitors the production of parts from all operating machines so they meet quality requirements. Identifies and corrects tool wear conditions.
  • Follows quality procedure and uses current method of measuring parts.
  • Works with the department programmer and/or supervisor on part and process development for continuous improvement and cost reductions.
  • Performs a thorough clean out of the machine at the end of the run to prevent material cross contamination.
  • Records any pertinent notes on the set-up sheet requiring investigation by the department programmer and/or supervisor for process or program modifications.
  • Maintains the machines for clean, safe operation by the machine operator. This includes fluid levels and concentrations where appropriate.
  • Keeps tooling and workstation area neat and orderly.
  • Performs any external set-up tasks available to minimize machine down time between set-ups.
  • Prepares additional rod stock utilizing the department lathe.
  • Cleaning of scrap turnings generated by the screw machines.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
  • Responsible for notifying the department supervisor of any supply shortages, safety hazards, or machine related problems, requiring attention.
  • Performs sumping of equipment as required.
  • Assists in the cleaning and handling of parts at the ultrasonic cleaning system.
  • Maintain fluid levels in equipment for safe operation.

Job Summary:

Education and Experience:

  • High school education
  • Blueprint reading. Understanding of Geometric Tolerance.
  • Prior machine operator experience strongly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
