Job description

Under the close supervision of the Pool Manager, this position is responsible for overall swim instruction. The position will keep accurate attendance records, develop lesson plans, and distribute progress reports to all swimmers, as well as evaluate and assess skill levels and progress of all swimmers. The Swim Teacher must also be able to motivate, evaluate, and communicate effectively with all age groups. The job may require shifts ranging from morning to evening hours and weekends.

Job Responsibilities :

  1. Administers swimming lessons by instructing classes as assigned or substituting when necessary.
  2. Responsible for recording attendance and progress of each participant. Distribute swimming report cards and encourage participants to register for the next session.
  3. Inform parents of any difficulties and keep them updated on students' accomplishments.
  4. Prepare for lessons by writing lesson plans in advance and ensure all necessary equipment is available; responsible for putting equipment away after lessons.
  5. Be prepared, creative, and energized when teaching.
  6. Provide a safe learning environment; keep students in sight at all times, enforce safety rules, policies, and regulations.
  7. Must be in the water during all levels of instruction, especially for beginning levels.
  8. Encourage students and parents to practice between lessons.
  9. Recognize emergency and dangerous situations; react quickly and calmly. Complete Accident/Incident reports as needed.
  10. Attend staff meetings, trainings, orientations, and emergency drills.
  11. Respond courteously to public inquiries; provide information related to the assignment; resolve complaints efficiently.
  12. Report facility hazards or issues to the supervisor.
  13. Attend work reliably and punctually; substitute for co-workers when available; secure substitutes for shifts when unable to work.

Experience and Skills

Education and / or Experience :

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years old.

Licenses, Certifications & Other Requirements :

  • CPR / AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications are preferred.
