Job summary

Michiana Marlins Swim School in Granger, IN seeks an energetic swim instructor to deliver group lessons for children, following our curriculum. You will manage class dynamics with enthusiasm while ensuring safety and fun in the water. The role includes evaluating student progress and maintaining attendance and progress records.

You will communicate progress to parents, assist with equipment setup, and help keep pool areas clean and orderly. Training is provided to new instructors.

Qualifications

• USA Swimming non-athlete membership for 18+ required.
• USA Swimming membership for 16–17 required or preferred.
• Instructor training provided by Marlins Swim School.

Responsibilities

• Provides swim instruction based on the Michiana Marlins Swim School curriculum.
• Delivers high energy, fun, educational group lessons for children.
• Manages group dynamics with positive, encouraging guidance.
• Evaluates student progress and completes attendance, progress, and incident reports.
• Communicates activities and development to parents/guardians clearly.
• Maintains pool area safety, reports maintenance issues to management.
• Organizes and stores class equipment, handles lane lines, and performs deckhand duties.
• Performs light cleaning tasks and may attend in-service trainings as needed.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Job description

Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

1. Provides swim instruction based on the Michiana Marlins Swim School curriculum.
2. Provide a high energy, fun, positive and educational group swim lesson experience for children.
3. Effectively manages group lesson dynamics with positive & encouraging command of a group class.
4. Evaluates students’ progress. Completes & maintains paperwork as required (attendance, progress reports, incident reports etc.).
5. Acts as a Michiana Marlins “ambassador” to ensure parental/guardian satisfaction, routinely clearly communicating the activities and development of students’ swim skills.
6. Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills while interacting with parents/guardians on the activities and development of students’ swim skills and with fellow co-workers.
7. Inspects pool areas before and after each class for possible maintenance, cleanliness or damage issues. Reports issues to management as appropriate.
8. Organizes and puts away all class equipment. Places and removes lane lines.
9. Performs deckhand duties as needed.
10. Occasionally performs light cleaning duties such as deck mopping, trash removal etc.
11. Occasionally required to attend in-service training outside of regular working hours.

Other duties may be assigned.

Required certifications before first day of class:

• Marlins Swim School Instructor Training (provided, but attendance required)

Desired experience:

Previous swim instructor or competitive swimming experience desired
