Job summary

The YMCA of the Northern Sky is seeking a part-time Swim Lessons Instructor for the Fargo area. You will develop age-appropriate lesson plans, supervise students to ensure safety, and provide feedback to the Swim Lessons Coordinator.

A strong emphasis on creating a safe, positive environment aligned with YMCA policies is essential. Requirements include being at least 15 years old, completing YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor Training within 6 months, childcare training within 90 days, and CPR/FA

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Complete YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor Training within 6 months of hire.
• Complete 15 hours of basic childcare training through Child Care Aware within 90 days.
• CPR/FA certification for Adult, Child and Pediatric within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Develops lesson plans that are both challenging and age-appropriate
• Supervise students and ensure their safety at all times
• Provide necessary feedback to the Swim Lessons Coordinator
• Maintain safe swim swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas
• Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures

Description

YMCA Swim School takes a safety-first approach, focusing on small class sizes, boosting confidence in the water, building student/instructor relationships, and allowing each student to progress at their own pace. Our lessons develop aquatic readiness, engage in underwater exploration, and teach children important water safety skills.

The YMCA provides weekly lap swims, open swims, swim lessons, water exercise classes, and adaptive swim time. Each year, over 5,000 youth learn the vital skill of swimming. The Fercho YMCA pool has been the home of the FM Gators swim team for over 50 years.

Requirements

• At least 15 years old
• Within 6 months of hire: YMCA Swim Lessons Instructor Training

And must also complete:

• Within 90 days of hire: 15 hours of basic childcare training through Child Care Aware
• Within 90 days of hire: CPR/FA Certification for Adult, Child, Pediatrics
• All employees receive a free YMCA membership!
• Part-time employees begin accruing Sick Leave immediately upon hire and Paid Time Off (PTO) after one year of employment
• 12% Retirement Plan - The YMCA will automatically contribute an additional 12% of the eligible employee's monthly income into their YMCA Retirement Plan when the following requirements are met:
  • The employee has been employed with the YMCA for 2 years
  • The employee has worked 1,000 hours during each of any two 12-month periods
  • The employee is 21 years of age or older

Summary

Shifts Needed:

Swim lessons are offered Monday through Thursday: 4:00pm - 7:00pm and Saturday: 9:00am - 12:00pm.

Staff are required to work at least one day per week.
