Job summary

Mt. Hood Community College is seeking a swim instructor to conduct lessons for ages eight months to adults, ensuring safety in and around water.

You will develop lesson plans and complete required reports, fostering an environment that values diversity and inclusion while aligning with department and college goals. Responsibilities include delivering ARC-guided lessons, maintaining safety, assisting participants and staff, planning activities, providing feedback, and completing progress records.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire. Must be maintained throughout employment.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire AND ability to demonstrate four of the six strokes taught in the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim progression.

Responsibilities

• Conducts swim lessons in accordance with American Red Cross and program guidelines.
• Ensures safety of students/participants during class time.
• Provides general assistance to and respectfully engages with to students, staff, participants, and general public.
• Assists other instructors as necessary.
• Plans and organizes activities for each class, using block and lesson plans.
• Provides positive motivational and corrective feedback to students/participants.
• Completes and distributes progress/skill cards according to lesson level requirements.
• Attends required in-service trainings for both lifeguards and instructors.
