Job summary

CSD Community YMCA in Clover, SC is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor to provide quality lessons using YMCA programs and ensure student safety. The role may require day, night, and weekend work, with responsibilities spanning lesson setup, progress communication, and equipment maintenance.

The position emphasizes following lesson plans, maintaining safety, and participating in staff trainings and events to support the YMCA mission.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Certification as YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor within first 60 days of employment.
• CPR, AED, First Aid and Administering Oxygen certifications.
• Stable temperament and maturity.
• Strong communication with people at all levels.
• Positive attitude and commitment to the YMCA mission.
• Physical ability to lift 25 pounds and perform required activities.

Responsibilities

• Teach aquatic skills.
• Set up class for a safe and fun environment.
• Communicate progress to parents/guardians or participants.
• Maintain attendance and skill records.
• Wear proper swim attire and YMCA instructor shirt.
• Follow prepared lesson plans.
• Maintain teaching equipment (kick boards, floats, etc.).
• Always stay within arm's reach of students.
• Know YMCA emergency procedures and equipment locations.
• Able to teach ages from 6 months to adult if needed.
• Use appropriate equipment and activities for age/level.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings and events.
