Job summary

YMCA of Upper Palmetto in Clover, SC is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor for evenings and Saturdays to deliver swimming lessons and ensure student safety under the Aquatics Director. You will use YMCA programs and support branch activities, with part-time hours.

Requirements include being 16+, CPR/AED/First Aid certified, and the ability to obtain YMCA Swim Lesson Certification within 60 days. This role involves varied shifts including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years or older.
• Certified in YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or ARC Water Safety Instructor within first 60 days.
• Certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED, First Aid and Administering Emergency Oxygen.

Responsibilities

• Teach aquatic skills to students.
• Set up the class for a safe and fun environment.
• Communicate progress to parents/guardians and participants.
• Maintain attendance and skill records.
• Dress in swimwear and YMCA instructor shirt.
• Follow prepared lesson plans.
• Maintain teaching equipment (kick boards, floats, etc.).
• Always be within arm’s reach of students and monitor them.
• Know YMCA emergency procedures and equipment locations.
• Teach a variety of ages—from 6 months to adult if needed.
• Use appropriate equipment and activities for different ages/levels.
• Attend staff meetings, trainings and events.
