Job summary

Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry Township, PA is seeking a part-time Swim Lesson Instructor to teach group and private lessons, including serving individuals with disabilities, ensuring safety and inclusivity in and around the pool.

As a direct contributor to youth development and healthy living, you will prepare lesson plans, assess progress, adapt to learning styles, and foster a welcoming environment while coordinating with families and staff.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills are required.
• YMCA Swim Instructor Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons as assigned following YMCA guidelines.
• Develop and adjust lesson plans based on student progress and abilities.
• Maintain attendance and progress records.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Maintain pool and equipment areas for safety and cleanliness.
• Follow all YMCA policies, including safety and emergency procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Employee should be able to teach swimming and water safety skills to individuals with disabilities, adapting lessons to meet the diverse learning styles, physical limitations, and needs and abilities of each individual, while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. They should be able to evaluate students progress and adjust lesson plans accordingly.

$12.00/ hr. - Group Lessons
$17.00/ hr. - Private Lessons

The Swim Instructor intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. The incumbent is responsible for the direct leadership, proper instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes; helping to increase skill and safety in and around water. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15.

• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Essential Functions

• Instruct swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
• Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourage parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintain records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc.).
• Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Complete incident and accident reports as necessary.Maintain Pool areas in regards to equipment, safety, inventory and cleanliness.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
