Job summary

The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation’s lead provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. This position provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Instructs swimming lessons according to YMCA guidelines, builds relationships with students and parents, and supports program scheduling. Maintains records and participates in trainings and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required.
• ASHI BLS, First Aid, Oxygen Administration cert (or equivalent) — basic/one-year BLS validity.
• Must demonstrate swim instructor skills to YMCA standards.
• Must be at least 16 years old.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines with prepared lesson plans.
• Builds authentic relationships with students and parents; encourages parent involvement and volunteers.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules; refers to other programs as appropriate.
• Completes staff orientation and required trainings (bloodborne pathogens, child abuse prevention).
• Maintains records (attendance, progress reports).
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; follows YMCA policies and safety procedures.
• Completes incident/accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and stores class equipment; reports damaged items.
• Complies with COVID-19 safety/cleanliness and uniform standards.
• Performs additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.
