Position: Swim Lesson Instructor (or Instructor Aide)

The Swim Lesson Instructor (or Instructor Aide) is responsible for working in the water, assisting in conducting aquatic instruction for members and participants. Providing support and encouragement to help students learn to swim. Ensuring safety and cleanliness of the pool area and adherence to all YMCA Aquatic Safety Standards.

Following employment, the Greater Philadelphia YMCA will cover the cost of the training and training hours required to secure YMCA Swim Lesson Certification. Successful completion of this certification will result in increased compensation.

Requirements for this job:

• At least 15 years old with successful completion of a swimming skills test
• Pursuit of YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification, CPR, First Aid, Oxygen, and Lifeguarding certifications

Responsibilities:

• Provide a safe environment for members and participants to learn to swim
• Encourage and support students to ensure an enjoyable aquatics experience
• Evaluate swimming skills; complete progress reports for each session; communicate with parents
• Participate as part of the aquatics staff team to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment
• Attend staff meetings and training as required
