Job description

Job Title: Swim Lesson Instructor (or Instructor Aide)

The Swim Lesson Instructor (or Instructor Aide) is responsible for working in the water, assisting in conducting aquatic instruction for members and participants. Providing support and encouragement to help students learn to swim, while ensuring safety and cleanliness of the pool area in adherence to YMCA Aquatic Safety Standards.

After employment, the Greater Philadelphia YMCA will cover the cost of training and hours required for YMCA Swim Lesson Certification. Successful completion of this certification will lead to increased compensation.

Requirements:

• Minimum age of 15 with successful completion of a swimming skills test
• Pursuit of YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification, CPR, First Aid, Oxygen, and Lifeguarding certifications

Responsibilities:

• Provide a safe environment for members and participants to learn to swim
• Encourage and support students to ensure an enjoyable aquatics experience
• Evaluate swimming skills; complete progress reports and communicate with parents
• Participate as part of the aquatics staff team to maintain safety and enjoyment
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
